Buds Flowers and Fruit - 2024 Edition

Ponca blackberry row is flowering:

The blueberries got hit with a light freeze right after flowering, but it looks like it didn’t hurt production at all this year:

Pawpaws on the way:

Korean Giant pears (first fruit for this tree on callery, 4th leaf):

…and a particularly precious cargo, my first two Warren pears:

My patch of wild azalea… just off the back yard.

Beautiful and what a wonderful fragrance.

Gerardi mulberry… loading up with fruit.

First two look like maybe Aronia, and I would agree probably blueberry.

I’m saving this photo as something to look forward to in years to come from my just grafted Gerardi.

Thanks. It’s a meat photo.

It’s always fascinating to see how much more slowly pawpaws wake up for me here in Seattle vs in their native range (I assume you’re on the east coast). Looks like no flowers this year on any of mine (fourth leaf since planting as 1-gal recently grafted trees in Feb 2021). Here’s the only one showing any sign of budding out yet, this is Susquehanna:

I’m about 800 miles south of you, and my pawpaws are only slightly ahead of yours.

Ridiculous fruit set on my Flavor King pluot this year despite the blossom blight. Thinning will be fun this year…

Took a little stroll out in my yard this morning to ‘shoot some flowers’.
Great color! I planted some fancy irises last fall. Only one is blooming so far . . . but they are gorgeous!

Love the complementary color scheme of HOT green and purple. Spider Wort.

I’m glad I read a few posts to this effect recently. I was beginning to wonder if the two paw paw trees I purchased were ever going to come out of hibernation. Most of my early varieties came out of hibernation over a month and a half ago.

TDE3/“Tahoe Gold” mandarin has started flowering, though interestingly only on two branches out of ~8-10 similar sized branches. On the south side only. They sure do smell wonderful, hopefully they’ll lure some more pollinators into the open doors of the greenhouse (for the avocados’ sake, mostly).
