Is this a place to ask for advice on thinning Asian pears? Mine are about the size of marbles, maybe a little smaller. This is my first bloom and I’m not sure how to go about doing it. cc @mamuang

My deer gave some on the outside a height adjustment… the taller ones were not eaten.
Should be blooming before too long.
They set fruit in clusters. Each cluster has anywhere from 6-10 fruitlets. How many clusters of fruit do you have?
If you don’t have a lot, you could leave 3 per cluster for now. (Just in case pests or birds damage a few.
Then, you need to figure out if a branch or a twig could handle those fruit. If not, you should get rid of the fruit.
Then, a couple weeks from now, you may want to reduce the number from 3 to either 2 or 1 per cluster.
This is your first year so you can be more cautious and leave more fruit. Once your tree sets a lot of fruit, you will need to get rid of many clusters because the tree may not have enough leaves to feed each pear.
I have found that Asian pears don’t shed their fruitlets as readily as Euro pears or apples.
