Unknown pear variety. This pear was almost killed to the ground 7 or 8 years ago by fireblight. Since then it has been nearly immune. Since it has been so resistant to FB, I doubt it is bartlett. I suspect it is one of the OH x B rootstocks. It does not ripen on the tree, but will ripen with a week on the counter. Melting buttery flesh with very few grit cells and a nice bartlett aroma. Plenty of red skin on the sun kissed fruits. Best year I ever had with it.
1 is better than none.
I have two varieties. One is sweet and the other tastes like a tomato that got frozen before ripening… However, I’ve found out by accident that they turn sweet when dried. The accident being that the ones I picked for my non-bitter-taster partner dried.on the counter and I was in an experimental mood.
I think those are new leaves. I’m assuming this is phalsa and not African sherbet tree. How long have you had it? Pictures online show the fruit on woody stems, but they say it only takes a couple of years to fruit, so maybe the first buds are on green growth like that. Couldn’t find pics on young plants with fruit.
Picked our Asian pears this morning…. Really thought they would be a September-October crop for us, but they are starting to drop, texture and flavor definitely indicate they are fully ripe. Questioning whether they will store as long as originally thought.
Debby really affected some figs, but not complaining!
Extra early PH 52.9 oz
Joan J and Fall Gold Raspberries really pushing now
Yeah Phalsa, it’s over a year old but thought it was dead as I wasn’t aware it’s deciduous. The prior growth didn’t quite look like this, but it is more likely branching. I’m just optimistic haha
Seriously wish we could exchange scions! That tree looks amazing!
Same thing here mostly with apples. Asian pears are only 2-3 weeks ahead, but hornets know how to speed up their ripening which is crap.
Medlars get confused almost every warm autumn and bloom even in October. This one decided to throw out a bunch of flowers after I’ve pruned a few branches about a month ago.
Hornet harvest
I salvaged this one although I’ve learned not to take what’s theirs the hard way.
Other than this Hosui they also target those large apples from my post above. They will move to other pears when these are done/picked leaving behind these lanterns
Beautiful!
That last one is a Beauty!
Wow!
I really need to let the figs ripen more before picking
It was the first week of June when Verdolino set figlets, so it only took about 65 days to ripen. Definitely a fast early fig.
