According to the internet, yes. I never had them myself. I will try some next year. Says they are for fresh eatting or soups.
Here in my corner of the PNW, this fall has been wet, but warm. So warm, that some flowers are already coming up that we don’t usually see until Mar/April. I was more than a little surprised today to see my daffodil beds pushing up growth in December. Usually the snow drops are always the first flowers to start popping up, but for some reason my daffodils figure they want to be first out of the gate.
An Azalea bush of mine has been putting out gorgeous flowers since November.
And very strangely a pear bud I grafted onto a Quince tree in August started pushing growth in November. Luckily I spotted the bud pushing and brought the tree inside so the tender new growth doesn’t get killed off when we hit some freezing weather. I wasn’t sure if I should prune off the top of the quince tree at this time off year, but I lopped it off a few days ago.
Andromeda. Flower buds and flowers from Dec into April so 4 months. After that nice variegated foliage. I tried rooting cuttings but no luck. I need to try again.
Greenhouse strawberries going well despite not knowing what’s pollinating them.
Blood oranges starting to color up as well. Hard to see in the photo but a little bit of red is starting to show.
So far, it’s been a good 40-60 degrees in here despite outside temperatures. I have 2 heaters going on very low in both ends of the greenhouse.
Mandarins, oranges, and Pomelo at various stages on various trees as well
Alot of yellow in today’s harvest. The last two wild grapefruit/pomelos from the woods, golden currant tomatoes (s. pimpinellifolium), sunberries (physalis minima), two thai dragon seedling peppers and 1 wonderberry (s. burbankii).
Our native Bird Pepper ( Capsicum annuum var. glabriusculum)! The plant itself is reserved for a work garden, but I managed to convince my boss to let me hold onto it till it had some ripe fruit so I could snatch some seeds. Very excited, I’ve been wanting one, but places are selling them for $30+. Its a pepper plant for crying out loud.
Sakurajima Mammoth radishes. Not a fruit or flower, but didn’t know where to put this.
Pretty pigeon pea blooms. Should bloom until at least the end of the year. Its windy out, hard to get the camera to focus.
Sharp Blue already has its buds forming up.
I’m pretty sure that’s a camellia. I get a bloom here and there whenever we have a few warm days during the winter.
Blood orange showing slightly more color every day.
Anne raspberry being her gorgeous self still. I can’t wait to spend thousands on stock tanks and growing them all in neat little rows i love raspberries but would rather not spend days pulling them up at random places.
Yes, you are right. It is a Camelia. It has been blooming for a while now, and it looks like there’s lots more getting ready to flower. Just beautiful, and pretty amazing to see such a great show of flowers considering it’s almost Christmas.
Last harvest of roselle. The plant just isn’t getting enough sun now and its covered in powdery mildew. They’ll go in a different location next year so I can hopefully keep the harvest going all winter long.
Does roselle get powdery mildew easily?
I guess so? It started getting it pretty quickly after it cooled off. Its the only plant that has it, even the tomatoes next to it don’t. Its definitely a sun issue though; the one still with a decent amount of sun didn’t have much mildew, and the one in full sun has none. We moved a trailer in a month ago that blocks morning sun from my roselles, so it was time to move them.
