Buds, Flowers and Fruits- 2025 edition

There is none growing where we live now but lots on my wife’s family farm. Been saying for a few years that we needed to dig some up and just haven’t done so yet. Hopefully it will transplant successfully. I’ve seen pictures of some (cultivated?) very pink blossoms but never in person. These white to somewhat pink are very nice though…

Very behind up here… strawberries just started a week ago and blueray is my first blueberry to start coloring up. I put up a cover today to hide from the birds.

Hopefully going to crop Fuji for the first time… it definitely over set though. Have not sprayed with anything but Fuji is the only one w neglible PC this year.

Kiowa Blackberries after the rain. These berries are huge but picking them at the right time is a guessing game. They are often still tart even when they are very black. I still enjoy them no matter the tartness since I grew them.

I think you can. I have had them fruit in Texas. Not a lot but some.

I thinned most of them, too. (GoldRush)

A couple Elders tipped over in the ridiculous May rain. May prune off the fallen over ones once they fruit. Hoping to make a lot of syrup.

Mine did that for years! This year it has lots of fruit developing . . . but very tiny at this point.

I have two “Flamin’ Fury P.F. Lucky 13” (?) peach grafts that have some pretty peaches this year. Huge peaches. I don’t recall them developing this early, last year. Or being this large. They are way ahead of the other peaches and nectarines. I just hope that the animals don’t get them. I pulled a few, just in case - to beat the raccoons to them. Will see if they will ripen on the window sill.

Developing sea berries aren’t pretty, but I am happy to see them anyway. Last year a male seaberry died so I planted another one in April and it did the trick… this is Titan. I’ve only sampled a few fruit off this little tree, but liked them. They’re not much bigger than Goumi, but more complex sweet/tart, and more fun to just grab a couple off the tree when they’re ripe (fall), or to put on salads. I didn’t get enough off my several trees last year to try juicing them.

I have 5 almonds, woo hoo! Here’s one in a bag.

I didn’t want to wait any longer and picked the haskaps. They’ve been blue for two weeks and a bird got in once already.

A mockingbird helped itself to a bunch and met a “tragic” end in the netting, and berries were dropping on the Beast/Blizzard, but I got a pretty good haul.

if you want to save the fruit that fall off, put a light colored small tarp under each bush that’s ripening. i cut a slit halfway thru the tarp and stake the ends down well. mine are all white. easy to get the berries that fall that way and i think the light reflecting from the white tarp helps them ripen and makes them a little sweeter, but i might just be imagining things. works well and reusable. my indigo gem/ treat haskap are just starting to color up right now.

First peaches from my Red Haven. I guess the combination of insect damage and a touch of brown rot caused them to ripen early. I was under the impression that it would be late June/early July before they would ripen in my area (Zone 7a Southetn Illinois).

We have had quite a bit of rain lately. So they were extremely juicy, but a tad bland. There are about 6 more on the tree that have minimal damage to them and they are still very firm. Hopefully those will be better because it’s supposed to be hot and dry for the next 2 weeks.
