I have figs waking up in VA Zone 7a/b… LSU Purple and my two Celestes. They are not in the same area and it hasn’t been “hot” but is about to be. Almost a month earlier than last year, and before my European Plums. They are in ground, and haven’t even been uncovered yet (ground mulched and covered in straw) & beyond my control. Most branches on LSU purple are alive to the tips, and waking up despite our 6 degree lows. Very impressed with this variety, despite only moderate fruiting last year. For reference I bought rooted cutting on Figbid May 2022. Grew in a 5 gallon that year, planted in ground Spring 2023. We have had an unusually cold winter with lots of freezing temperatures.

Great photos!

PS. What ́make and model and where did you get your label press?

I think it was M22…

60.00… Vintage… ebay.

I will check at lunch time… out working the orchard and weeding beds today.

We had a big discussion here when I got it… think that was 2 springs ago.

I could only be that lucky to find one.

I also wonder how much the printers nurseries use for their plastic tags are.

Thanks!

I also got one from EBay but I dicked around and waited a couple years or at least one after @TNHunter posted about his. I couldn’t second his recommendation enough, now with my small potted seedlings I have been making tags to fasten to the pots with zip ties as it’s just fun to use.

These are some cherry trees on Main Street on the campus here at Morehead State University. They’re right across the parking lot from where I work, and are actually fruiting cherries, not ornamental. I think they’re about 30 years old, and just full of blooms.

I see a few but am struggling to ensure they emboss on metal. Since they apparently are no longer made, no models or info to search for.

@Shibumi … it was M22… below is one of our prior discussions about it.

I have been using it with the aluminum rolls… works great.

You can get a new one for 250-300.00.

When I was looking there were a few of the older models on ebay… reasonably priced.

The new ones will cut the tape off for you and punch a hole in the tag.

I cut my tape off with a pair of scissors and punch the hole with a finishing nail punch.

Good Luck !
