Hi everyone! I have some Hansen’s Bush cherries and Nanking bush cherries. I’ve read various different opinions online about how cherry TREES can have invasive roots. Unfortunately, one of the only spots that will get enough sunlight is next to my house (which already has a giant crepe myrtle planted right up against the wall). Does anyone know if bush cherries are safe to plant within a few feet of the home foundation? Thanks in advance!!
Nanking cherries are more closely related to plums than to cherries, FWIW. Don’t know about Hansen’s.
No damage to your foundation. These are smaller trees/bushes and the roots are not that large. We have 4 large Juliet bush cherries beside a house with slab floor; no problem.
We have noticed the these cherry bushes, being on the East side of the house and protected from the hot afternoon sun, do better then the ones out in the open. We picked 7 1/2 gallons of large, beautiful cherries this year.
Not sure about bush cherries but crepe Myrtle has invasive roots that send runners everywhere. Probably not great for a foundation
Good to know, thanks!!
Thank you!! I appreciate the advice as well.
Yikes…it is huge. At least 10-15ft tall. I don’t see any suckers nearby, but they may be because the neighbors planted an enormous invasive bush honeysuckle hedge just over the property line. That thing is even taller.
