Has anyone ever tasted the fruit of callery pear? I’ve tasted green ones before. Saturday I found a tree that had the usual green fruit but it also had some that were brown. I picked one. It was mushy soft. It was good. I ate a hand full and have since gone back for more. Some were over ripe and they weren’t good.
I’ve eaten a few around here just to see. Tiny and super tannic. I mean half ripe persimmon level of tannin! Might be useful to cross into a breeding line to bring in some different traits, but unlikely to yield anything very good for several generations.
I tried a few with very large fruits 1-1.5" in diameter, they were surprisingly juicy and the initial flavor before the tannins hit was sweet and interesting…but then they tasted like poison

I have but I only enjoy them after the first frost. It drastically reduced the tannin level to practically 0. The taste is good but the texture was mealy.

we have different palates my friend LOL
I picked a couple dozen and took them to a gathering of friends. Everyone liked them. Even children.
