Can I save a split pluot branch?

I’m growing my first pluot (Dapple Dandy) and working it into my first fan espallier … which is to say, I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m learning that the young branches are very weak at the crotch, and while attempted to position a small branch (1/4") I caused it to split at the crotch, maybe 1/2" to 3/4" deep. It’s a useful branch for my espallier, so I’ve wrapped the split tightly in hopes that it will heal. But if it won’t, I should probably just cut it off and train a replacement in it’s place. Thanks for any advice/predictions on this.

It should heal if you keep it braced for a year. You can also do a bridge graft next year to reinforce it.
