Can the fresh grass clippings be put under fruit trees as mulch or does it hurt the tree?

Fruit Production is too heavy too soon

I have a couple of 2 year old pears that have really outdone themselves on BET and callery rootstock. I let the rootstock grow one year on its own ungrafted. I missed thinning the fruit on these since they are remote in the orchard. They have not even been pruned yet. At a glance it appears staking will be needed.
