Captain Jack's vs Surround

I don’t know. I know that it can be very effective, and “somewhere” on this forum we discussed heat’s effect on it. I recalled that the conclusion was that if it got too hot you couldn’t depend on it. I don’t know of any solid science saying that its potency declines “X% for every Y increase in temperature per Z hours”, and that’s what we need. I didn’t find anything with a quick search.

In the absence of any solid data we’ll have to see what we can cypher out from anecdotal evidence. Is your own experience consistent with the hypothesis that heat damages Triazicide? Mine is, but it would take a lot more “field observation” to begin to know for real. And who in the real world wants to risk a crop by deliberately taking chances to find out when they have a viable alternative?

Right now spinosad handles my codling moth issue and I can ignore triazicide for now. But I would like to know what others’ experiences are and see how they compare.

Having said what I said,if I had kids around, well I probably would not use it. Better to not take any chances. I just wanted to say that. Everybody’s situation is different.
It’s only me that goes where my trees are, So that influences what i do.

Thank you gentlemen , a lot of useful info!

What is known is that the pyrethroids have a very short shelf life. The commercial formulations I buy contain a factory date and you really need to use it up in 2 years. I have long felt that without a freshness date, which Triazicide lacks, you are at the mercy of luck when you purchase it- who knows if they are rotating inventory at the big box you get it or even if they got it straight from the factory? It may be safer to order on-line- especially if you could get it from an Amazon warehouse. Those robots are probably pretty reliable that way.

Yes, bought mine from Amazon and it appears to work if you can get fresh product. I feel like I’m buying stocks! You have to market time it right! Or poker! As you have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them… :grinning:

Exactly.
