Can anybody help me to identify what is stealing and eating my cherry blossom? For some reason they only like bing and Stella cherry blossoms. They leave my Rainer alone. It’s been the 3rd year that this is happening. Seems like they cut/drop/eat. I think it’s from rotten but could be Beetle.. I don’t think it’s from birds from the look of the half eaten flower. Have anyone experienced this?
I am still leaning towards rotten, whoever, I applied tangle foot on the tree trunk today, if more flowers disappears then I know it’s an aerial attack
I’m not sure about this, but in the photo with the blossoms on the ground there was at least one example of a flower with the central nectary eaten out of it. If this is what is actually happening, then the likely culprits are birds. I had this happen to my cherry blossoms years ago, when flocks of House Finches destroyed lots of blossoms this way. Other birds did the same thing briefly in at least one more recent year. Fortunately, House Finches have become scarce here, along with most songbirds; so, this hasn’t happened in recent years.
