I have a 6 year old productive Royal Lee cherry in the ground. I live in a warm climate with long hot and dry summers. However, this past month we have been having unusual daily rains. Cherries are generally not grown here.
Yesterday there was a cup pile of black jelly at the base of the tree. I cleaned it off and checked for borer holes. I found none. I think the jelly came from a crack that looks like it has black in it.
Since I live in a hot and dry climate, will this resolve itself when the rains stop? Or should I cut it out during summer? How can you tell the difference between bacterial and fungal canker?
