The good news is that my ten year old grandson said that this was a very good tasting apple. He got half and I got the remainder and I agreed. The apple was 2.5” and dropped earlier than the expected ripening time. Now for the bad news. This tree was growing well but lately it started dropping several brown leaves. I’m assuming with all the rain it is scab. The tree was growing well and I was getting excited about having another high quality apple. It is risky but I’m considering doing a summer graft onto another apple tree that is a backup. I do understand now why Chestnut gets such good reviews.

I also like Chestnut. I would say my favorite crabapples are 1 Wickson and 2 Chestnut. ’

I have scions of Chestnut and Clarks Crab to add here and at my daughters place this spring.
Hopefully some day… i get to experience a few of those.
