Maureen! So nice if you to write at length. My small orchard at its largest had only 43 Trees. One harsh winter killed seven trees alone. I still had a few 4-5 leaf trees but those were dug up and given to friends. I am planting a dwarf orchard in pots as I only have a large terrace, for which I am grateful! No more mowing or plowing!
I am buying very large Anduze pots. They will be almost 4’ tall and will hold a lot of soil. I have found a nursery that sells mature dwarf trees. They are not reasonable in price, but time is not on my side! I will take pictures this spring, next month, when I start planting!
The death of a tree is so sad. I lost 3 to voles a couple of years ago. A few more that came from one particular nursery didn’t make it. And yes, the weather can do them in.
Your mature dwarf trees sound delightful! I’m looking forward to the photos. I will send you some, too.
I just found pics of my old apartment in Paris. It was very small. 1997-1998. But from my bed, which was also my couch, I could see the Pantheon lit up at night. And the fellow in the building across from mine had a garden on the roof. I used to see him tending his garden. :-))
Yes, very much, BUT I do not miss the work. I now have 8 fruit trees on my terrace. I was only going to have 4. What is it about fruit trees that makes us buy them. I also have two black currant bushes and a large strawberry pot. My friends say I can have my own fruit market.
I do not miss the black knot, brown mould and insects. I bought nematodes this year that will eat the Cicada larva and sprayed twice with Bordeaux mix. Thats it. And I can finally eat the fruit I grow. You know the work it takes to make it all work. It was a pretty place though.
