I bought an antique cider mill (manual scratter and press combo) last year. I started restoring it by removing rust and painting. I am running out of time to remake the wood structure so I’ll do that next year. Here’s some before and after shots:
Looks great!
Nice workmanship.
Replacing the wood structure this year. I would save the old material but it is too rotten and unstable. Got the hardest pieces fit together. The rest will be fairly easy. I would prefer to use all white oak, but it will be a mix of red and white oak salvaged from old barns.
Exceptional.
I would be interested to see more details on that set up. Is the mechanism set up for scratting hard fruit like apples or for squashing grapes. Also, how are the cross members on the press fitted into the uprights. I assume they must have tenons that extend into the uprights or they would not withstand the pressure. It looks like there are screws in the uprights right about where a tenon should be, so that’s a good sign. The screw does not have a long handle for leverage, so you’ll probably need a device to apply more force. There are a few handy options for that purpose.
