This deserves a whole new thread but here it goes. I had them planted four years ago on my backyard hill where they were stuck at 2 feet high, no fruit and dying. This was either because of crown gall or an Ash tree 30 feet away. I moved them to my front yard and one of them exploded in growth. I forgot which one is which but it is a yellow fleshed, clingstone. I love how it has a meaty texture and it is soo sweet. Thanks for the scions again!
My pleasure! Happy that it finally worked out for you. I suspect it is H Blaze, as it is fully cling stone.
Honey Royale is free stone when fully ripe, but if slightly underripe it can be cling stone.
I never get any scale on my in ground trees, but my key lime and a meyer in pots stay with scale issues in the winter. But it’s never a huge infestation. I would plant them both if I had room for them in a spot I could protect a bit (especially the lime). I love citrus for the simple fact they don’t ever have any pests that make a real impact for me. Maybe I’ll bite the bullet and plant this large meyer this week.
My calamansi is loaded in fruit this year, as is the Owari.
Ponkan has 5 fruits, all the kumquats loaded as usual. But my Cara Cara, Glen, sunburst and Okitsu have yet to produce fruits to ripe, they have dropped every year. Still relatively small so I’m not too concerned about it, assume it’s drought stress causing it.
Check the under side of the leaves. Maybe mites.
Here in Orangevale we have the perfect climate for Owari Satsuma, this is why ours are so good. Also really good all around citrus climate so about as good as it gets for citrus. The Cara Cara is definitely a great orange, and Tango is not sweet enough to be a top choice. Gold Nugget may be our # 2 or 3, really good.
