Clark's crabapple sibling

This is a seedling sibling to clark’s crabapple. What a beautiful huge tree!

I was reading an article that researchers were studying improving atractibility to pollinators as a new breeding point target.

They are looking at UV markings on petals. Hormone output. Increased protein in the pollen.
More nutrient packed nectar. Scent. Petal coloration based on the observation darker petals attract more insects.

are the apples the same as clarks?

No they are very different apples.

Any idea what the pollen parent could be or was it open pollinated?

These are all very feral apple trees.

does it load up like that every year? how big are the apples,human compatible or wildlife only?

When is it’s blooming period? Certainly looks like a promising pollinator tree.

Nice looking tree! I have “Clark’s Green Summer” and “Clark’s Red /Yellow Summer” they have been in production a few years, but I haven’t had a chance to observe them as well as they deserve…

It came into production later and never stops bearing, just like the others no fireblight. They could get fireblight but its highly unlikely. When they were small i brushed them all with fireblight infected limbs to kill off the weak ones.
