@Wayout2day
Congratulations, i hope to see you growing 100 types of pears very soon! Your rootstock is a very good choice!
First post here, I’ve lurked for awhile now. I’m wondering if the mentioned pear varieties can be grafted to OHxF rootstocks or if ussuriensis is required?
Thanks
Came across these 2 interesting articles.

Its good to connect with my NAFEX friends again, after a few years of not getting the publication. I live in central Alberta, zone 3, and zone 2 in a test winter. My coldest at my hobby orchard a few years ago was -43C, or about -46F. Needless to say my 300 test fruit trees are among the hardiest on the planet, or they don’t survive.
Recently I have gotten into hardy pears big time.…
This is my first post, and I’d like to thank you for having me. I’m in Northern Maine’s Aroostook County, Zone 4A, and my goal is to install an pear and apple orchard with cold-hardy varieties. In 2017 and 2018, my kids and I planted 400 Bartlett pear root stock from Lawyer Nursery, and those have shown about 99% survival rate in our depleted, acidic soil, even through a couple summer droughts. What cold-hardy pear varieties have you all had luck with in Zone 4? I enjoy Bosc, but everything …
Hello. I’m hoping to identify a couple pear cultivars which would ripen in a short season (before Redhaven peach) and be hardy in zone 5. As my family isn’t favorably inclined towards pears, another important quality would be taste excellence, although we might be easily impressed as our only experience is with store pears shipped from afar. I saw previous mention of some pears from Russia that might be of interest here in Alaska, but I haven’t found availability of those types, and at my locati…
I could use a hand identifying a pear tree. I’m located in Northern Maine’s Aroostook County, and a friend showed me a pair of pear trees her late husband had brought back from a trucking run and planted in a low spot on their farm some 15 years prior. The two trees were planted in a low area surrounded by other trees except to the immediate south, and have grown tall and thin, with the majority of the branches growing toward the south. The second pear tree’s sunlight has been somewhat blocke…
Back in 2012 and earlier i.was talking about using cotton easter as pear rootstock. I did not actually do it and wont likely ever have a need to use cotton easter. I have used aronia. Anyway here was a. 2018 thread Grafting compatibility for pears - #41 by clarkinks
@Bernie really does have a need and actually did the work to grow pears on cotton easter Aronia as rootstock - #34 by clarkinks . Bernie is also responsible for negotiating with the russians to bring those russian pears into Canada. The pears from Canada and Russia made their way into Alaska and the furthest northern most states. @hungryfrozencanuck4b @smsmith @northof53 @northwoodswis4 @Konrad @steveb4 @marknmt and many others will have great experience with more pears than those i named.
