Comparing two starter pomegranate trees

I was just out visiting nurseries and saw two Wonderful Pomegranate trees. One like a small bush (about knee high or a bit taller) and the other closer to 6 feet tall. The smaller one is a lot cheaper. Trying to decide which to get. I don’t mind paying more if the taller tree will fruit much faster - but I just don’t have the knowledge to know if it’s worth the extra. How fast do pomegranates grow? Is the taller plant going to give me a better head start and fruit much sooner than the smaller one, or is not going to make much of a difference?

@PomGranny might be able to help.

Hopefully experienced pomegranate gardeners weigh in as all of mine are under 3’. But, my limited experience has been that smaller trees plant/grow better. I deeply regret getting a 6-7’ tree last fall. It is struggling, needs major pruning changes, and I’m removing it.

I got a ~18" Sverhannyi or something that means “early” last year. Picture is from a few days ago.

I’m not sure if you would want to count the single branch for its total height or not, but it got quite a bit larger in one year. I’m guessing it’ll flower next year if all goes well.

Hi Goldenmountain. I’ve never grown a pomegranate tree from anything other than a very young ‘whip’ . . . or a cutting that I’ve started, myself. I ordered most of mine from nurseries - and had them shipped to me.
They tend to grow quite slowly and take awhile to mature enough to flower and fruit. Some of my varieties, planted in 2018-2020 still have not produced fruit! And others, that I started from cuttings have surprised me - and had fruit within a few years!
Six feet tall is a fairly large tree, and my concern would be in successfully transplanting it. But, then . . . I’ve never tried to start with that tall a tree, so I can’t give you advice based on my own experience.
If it were my decision - between the two options - I’d just get the smaller one.
