Years ago I had a problem spot at a customer’s very visible neoclassical front entrance, matched plants on either side. One side would look poorly and eventually die over several years. Long before my care and years during. I tried everything, switched plants from side to side, finally we gave up and put in new matching plants each spring. Several years after I retired she told me they had a natural gas leak, 80 year old pipe rusted out. Gas company said the worst spot was directly under the problem planting.
