I have a small standard Wonderful pomegranate I’ve got growing in a container (approx 6 mo old) and it’s really taking off. I live in Boston, so this guy will be indoors with me in colder months (on the roof in summer), but fortunately we have a very well-lit apartment with a nice almost greenhouse-like loft.
I’m wondering if anyone has tips on pruning. As you can see in the pics, this guy is sending side branches like crazy. I know people grow pomegranates in both “bush” and “tree” configurations depending on pruning and I’m open to either, with an eye for keeping things somewhat organized given the plant will live in our house.
i just potted one up. it has a Russian sounding name. will be indoors from late oct to late may. hardy to -5. supposed to get only 4ft. tall with 3in.fruit. ony 6in. so it will be a while before it fruits.
Hi Dan welcome. I’m pretty new to Poms also. I got several over the winter and rooted one last summer that’s in a 3g looking similar to yours. Another a friend gave me an Unknown Pink. I’ll use those to help pollinate my larger trees. Also a rare dwarf Emperor for bonsai last year. The two I bought(Parfianka & Wonderful)were in 5g and pretty big I put one in a 45g and the other in the ground. So I left them pretty much as is and plan on shaping in a year or two down the road. Besides for shaping. That way the trees get more energy and stronger to hopefully produce more and faster.
