I’ve grafted a bunch of apples on Malus coronaria the last few years- they grow wild here, so free rootstock. One tree produced this year, and it produced true to type large non-astringent apples. Time will tell if the other varieties will do the same. I will say they grow quite fast and have exceptional weed tolerance on coronaria.
