Crimson Royale Pluot in Spain

The problem is there are simply too many varieties out there for nurseries to carry them all.

There are plenty of varieties grown that can’t really easily be found to buy a tree much less to find scions to buy.

I’d agree there are too many worthwhile varieties for one nursery to carry them all.

BTW, are you aware of the Dave Wilson variety finder? In addition to to finding a nursery that stocks a cultivar they distribute, there is a second use: obtain a list of all retailers in a region or country-wide.

A tree is a scion with roots.

Yes I’m aware and have used the DWN listing.

I’d rather buy scion of available and off patent varieties than buy a whole tree.

I don’t have much space left to add many trees so for a few years at least I will be adding different varieties on my existing trees.

If I find a few that are obviously better choices for me, climate, tree health, and/or taste wise, I will concentrate on what works.

Sometimes a whole tree is the only timely means of obtaining scionwood.

Ultimately yes… If I’m that hard up for a particular variety.

If not then your complaints are empty.

Hello John .
You have both available in the same nursery.

Flavor Heart is large in size, with a very good presence, sweet and subacid flavor , but it has plane flavor , not have the spark that I like in other varieties.
It is very sweet and has a slightly vanilla flavor, but it does not have a complex flavor like Flavor Supreme, for example.
Flavorich is not a Saint of my devotion either.
They are both good, but not for launching fireworks.

There are many varieties infinitely better than those two.

If you want to buy me a bigger property I’d be happy to buy more trees.

Somehow I think we won’t become drinking buddies…

Richard, sometimes not, most of the sometimes (especially with cherry trees).
I usually buys cherry trees from nurseries in Italy (one-stemmed trees 1.5 meters tall).
I cut above the rootstock (the rootstock they have is not suitable for me), chop up the scion, keep the cuttings refrigerated, and graft them in spring onto rootstocks suitable for me.
There is no other system.

Jose

I was thinking I’m not much of a drinker either.
