My copy arrived today. Just glanced through it. A very nice book about how apples fitted into the south’s history. The people, the places and how so much of it was lost as modern times arrived. Also the interest in cider that has lead to the revival of old apples.

Not for someone looking for a book like Tom Burford or Lee Calhoun’s. Food history and culture is the tone for this one.

I also got this book (any southern apple book I’ll buy in a second). The author intertwines a whole bunch of different apple history stories with the story of her cider enterprise. I already knew some of the stuff in the book but it has more on some things I knew almost nothing about, e.g. Indian orchards, old southern nurseries, etc. It’s nice to get the broader history and not just lists of apple varieties.

Anyway I’m really enjoying it! YMMV.
