Digging up Callery Pear for Rootstock

also, I agree that it can be difficult to get good roots on these. I found that smaller trees had large lateral sucker roots from a mother tree. If you could, I believe severing the sucker root from the mother tree, leaving the tree in place for a season , and then transplanting might give better results.

The middle ones look a bit like Tree of Heaven suckers but I can’t tell for sure.

Ya I kind of thought they looked different. There are a couple in there that I am sure they are Callery.

The blocks are at my work. I wish I had some for home use!

I can’t speak to every one of those, but most look like pear seedlings. I don’t really start seeing the thorns on them until they get above about 1.5-2” diameter at ground level.
