I just ordered two grapes from Double A and was wondering if anyone has tried these varieties. They are Lorelei and Ontario.
Descriptions:
“Lorelei produces a white seeded table grape with a pleasant melting texture. The flavor of Lorelei is mild labrusca with light muscat and tropical fruit flavors.”
“Ontario is probably most notable for its use in the grape breeding program at Cornell University. It produces very sweet, small, white to light yellow grapes with large, loosely filled clusters and has good disease resistance.”
I can’t remember if my Glenora grape came from them or Raintree.
Glenora is also a Cornell introduction. Good quality seedless blue grapes with showy fall foliage most of the time. Supposedly not a big producer, but good enough for home production.
Cant speak to those varieties, but I was impressed with Double A as a company as well this spring. Stock was excellent, price was reasonable and no problems otherwise. I went with a few table grapes to trial, and some raspberries.
The description for Lorelei sounds good, but I wonder if there is a reason it isn’t more widely grown. I couldn’t find much info on it, maybe it is too similar to Edelweiss. I got Ontario just because it seems decent and low maintenance.
Lorelei (ES 5-4-29) – My favorite for flavor. Beautiful medium yellow berry with dusty bloom and brown-red freckles in loose clusters. Distinct muscat flavor and extremely sweet. Ripens around 9/10. Considered both a wine and table grape
