I have a yellow dragon fruit plant that has red buds in the center I don’t have any memories of red growth in the past. it is 18 months old from seed.

Looks ok. Sure is thorny though.

One of my seedlings had similar reddish new growth and then the segments that grew from those looked different… maybe more “mature”? The spines are less hairy. Here’s a seedling that never had the reddish growth:
