Drip irrigation timer recommendations?

I did a search here and found some good information on setting up a drip irrigation system but not much information on timers. This is for a home garden. Does anyone have any timers they would recommend?

Hi:

We have a Rainbird timer/water-fertilizers/programmable unit and are very satisfied with it. Marc

Appreciate the recommendation! Like this one? https://www.lowes.com/pd/Rain-Bird-Irrigation-Timer/1000225673

Our system is in fact for a programmable (time & quantity of water injected), multi zones, drip irrigation for our greenhouse but I gather Rainbird must have a system specifically designed for gardens. We are very happy with it. Marc

Thanks again Marc!

I agree with Mark about the Rainbird products. I use 5 of the SST units to control 3 fertigation thanks and 40 individual downstream valves.

It you want something simple with just hose attachments Orbit and others have them with 1,2,3 or 4 outlets like this one:

More sophisticated systems use timers with separate solenoids.

I used low end Orbit ones before, but they lasted maybe 1.5 years on average.

I’ve got a 4 zone Melnor timer in its second year right now that hasn’t broke yet.

In my experience they all work and it is just a question of how many zones you need, and how long they last.

Thank you all for your input!

I read the same thing about the Orbit timer, that it tends to not last long. I don’t mind spending a little more on something that will last. My vegetable garden is small, only 5 raised beds about 150 square feet. I’ll check out Rainbird and Melnor. Thank you!

Be sure to check the warranty, and what you need to prove warranty claims.
