Drying pears - natures best candy!

That’s interesting. I dehydrated both watermelon and cantaloupe one year, trying to find a way to preserve the excess. While the melons were really good when eaten fresh, after dehydrating, they all tasted like squash to me. I was really disappointed and ended up throwing it all away. I am glad yours turned out so well!! :watermelon:

I didn’t care much for dehydrated melon either. Frozen is acceptable, but not that great either.

Are all pears good for drying? I have Kieffer, Duchess, and Abete pears growing now. I may try to dry some of these pears once they start ripening. I am just wondering more about the Kieffer since it seems to have more grit than some of the other pears.

I have a specific pear variety for drying. It’s called a knocking pear. We dry the pear whole and not in pieces.

@MikeC

Yes I’ve dried them all before but I prefer Kieffer canned or frozen.

I used the Kieffer pears I had at my old house for making pear butter.
