Early Golden Plum

Early Golden plums picked today. 17 brix. Just slightly mealy but still very good. This is crazy early for my location. I would say normal ripening date for these is July 15. After a wet spring, It’s been very hot and dry in June. Seven days in the 90s already.

mine have been early and very good this year too, about half picked now. most years I don’t like early golden that much and it’s more of a novelty (ripening so early that it’s earlier than mid-late season cherries)

my strategy for picking is going for full tree ripe, only picking those that come off with the lightest touch (and those that fall). most japanese plums I like counter ripened but not this one

Mine were good, but either a racoon or a groundhog got the rest last night. Bummer, I need to up my defensive game.

My Early Golden is unbelievably mealy even when underripe. Is this because of the weather being off this year? What would cause extra-mealiness in plums?

I notice my berries taste more washed out this year as well, first time I noticed that, although it’s been hotter and drier so this doesn’t make sense. And oddly my goumi hasn’t been touched by birds at all this year, not even a little bit. Usually they strip the bushes clean.

If you still have wood for Early Golden plum I am interested in obtaining 2 or 3 sticks. I am more than happy to pay for your expenses and time. If you are able to be of help please PM me. Thank you.
