Elderberry pest: spindle worm

This is my 3rd year growing elderberries, and I’m seeing significant damage from spindle worms (elder shoot borer larvae). All my bushes are affected including Wyldewood, Bob Gordon and an ornamental variety called Black Lace (sambucus nigra).

Here’s some pics:

Anyone aware of a good management method?

I’m removing the infested growths and destroying the larvae. I’ve yet to see an adult moth.

My plan next year is to cut the Wyldewood & Bob Gordons down to the ground & treat all the new growth with an insecticide.

Maybe bt to control them?

Thanks, worth a shot. They are terribly destructive creatures.
