Last photo is earlier than the second. Sadly I didn’t find a photo in where all the fruits were ripe. The acidity fades in time, but they do it best on the tree. I left some apple till near end of October, and my brother, who is picky, loved them.
Wow, Circe in bloom is so beautiful! I have been considering the Red Love apples – particularly Era - but I have heard mixed reviews and I can’t get any to try up here and tress/scion are hard to come by and expensive. That’s OK, not being able to find the perfect apple is a Cadillac problem, as they say. Thanks everyone for your kind suggestions!
@SMC_zone6 ,
Took this ugly-looking apple out from a fridge. It dropped to the ground from a multi-grafted tree some time in Oct. Not sure which graft it dropped from.
Took a bite and was wowed!! I am not easily wowed by my home grown fruit. Maybe, I did not expect much from this ugly duckling.
Had to put it down and cut it up to take pics. It was crunchy with a nice blend of sweet and tart. Brix was 14, considering so much rain we got, I was impressed.
Actually, are there any red fleshed that AREN’T pretty in bloom?
(Some of the Etter varieties, possibly.)
Redfield is hard to beat. Unopened buds in evening of Odysso have a black cast of red. I hope to see some more varieties in bloom for the first time in 2022.
