Extending the Life of Grow Bags/Fabric Pots?

I’m really liking these grow bags, but the downside is that they don’t last forever like plastic does. Does anyone have any tips for extending their life?

I buy brown root pouches which last about 4 years here, on cement. By that time I need to change the soil and up pot anyway. [quote=“ross, post:1, topic:8694”]
hey don’t last forever like plastic does.

I would say it lasts longer, but not forever. They will become bridle with time, they will crack. I’m throwing a few out next year, I fix broken ones when possible, but eventually I throw them out too.
New ones are so thin, they really don’t make them like they used to.

I have used a few different Root Pouch brand fabric pots. I have found their advertised life spans to be pretty accurate. I have a couple above ground 3-4 yr life span bags still going strong.

Hmm, what if I raised my grow bags above ground and put them on pallets? I wonder which part of the bag goes first.

The part that gets the most sun. Even with landscape pots, hoses, watering lines, etc. The more you can protect it from the sun the slower the deterioration. For that reason white or reflective surfaces fare better than dark - unless you need the sun to warm it up.
