Favorite Peaches for California

Peaches are my favorite summer fruit, and Mid Pride is my favorite peach! Big, freestone, sweet & tangy, very juicy. Have to eat these outside or standing over a sink. My son makes a mess with them

Anyone have some favorites for CA that ripen late?

Very nice looking peaches. If juice is not running down my arm it doesn’t really seem like a great peach to me.

That is really nice lighting in your photo. It makes those peaches glow!

Peach season is one season that never seems long enough. I hope you find good varieties to extend it as long as possible.

I like all peaches, but enjoy white peaches more than yellow ones. As white peaches go, Snow Beauty is top notch. It’s not late though. Among late yellow peaches, did you try Kaweah? I didn’t try it yet but it’s supposed to be very good.

I’m not in California but I have heard Rio Oso Gem is really good. Fair Time?

Well, I’ll look for those Scions at next years CRFG exchange. I never know what is what when I go there. Rio Oso might be too high chill but Fair Time/Kaweah look like winners.

The patent on Kaweah expires in November, so it would be nice to find scions at next years CRFG exchanges.

I was looking for more peaches to add to my collection in coastal East Bay and found this thread. Did you end up adding more peach varieties to your collection? I’m looking for new varieties as well. I have 2 Elberta peach trees that are 4-5 years old that I love and between the 2 trees, 1 of them always produced better tasting fruit (I suspect they are 2 diff variations of the Elberta) and I want to graft new yellow and white peach varieties onto the poor performing tree. This past year I’ve been trying new varieties of peaches from the Monterey Market but it seems that many of the varieties I like don’t have scionwood that is available to buy online (July Flame/August Flame, Red Haven, O Henry, Rio Oso Gem, Zee Lady).

There were many peach varieties at the CRFG Scion Exchange in Concord CA, last Saturday and the event at Santa Rosa yesterday. The remaining events are away from the Bay Area 2020 Scion Exchanges – California Rare Fruit Growers, Inc. The Bay Area events are held Saturdays, mid to late January, something to keep in mind…
