Fertilizer going ballistic

The apps? The spying on everyone? Things been going down since 1962, 1973…but they’ve been going faster lately.

I feel like i lived in a bubble until 2003 when i started reading/following peak oil websites (oil drum) and that opened my eyes to finite resources, population growth, etc. I gave up on that after fracking took off and oil prices dropped (late 2000s).

I watched something on Youtube about these workers in S America (peru?) that would go on these islands and harvest bird poop for fertilizer…it was really dusty and the work looked horrible. I should dig around for the video, it was interesting.

Why does my mind think that sounds like a cult? or militia? lol

Honestly since ‘social media’ and ‘social distancing’ have become the norm… everyone i know or meet is less social.

Likeminded?

I bet that you could set 5 random families at a table and serve them meat, potatoes, green beans white bread and soft butter and have an apple pie as dessert… and 3 families wouldnt eat it.

Not vegan, not organic, too many carbs, wrong brand, too much cholesterol, too much sugar, not enough vegetables, wrong type of meat.

(i should have listed salad to really stir the pot). Is there any way to have a salad go right with more than 2 people? 30 kinds of dressing, not enough cheese, wheres the croutons? I dont eat iceberg… wheres the fresh cracked pepper… onions cut wrong… lol.

The other two families would probably bicker over the wrong style of green beans. How the meat was processed, wrong kind of butter, one only eats whole wheat bread… even the apple pie would have something wrong with it. Wrong crust, not enough nutmeg, not enough cinnamon…
Wrong kind of apples used.

Golden Corral knows what im talking about… and probably the worst social experiment ive seen… except for ‘Continental Breakfasts’ at motels/hotels.

Yep, like quinoa, the Peruvians sell bat $*it for money…and they suffer because Americans
and Europeans are on this health craze.

no cult or militia. preppers. friends and family that were raised to eat what was put in front of you. people that werent coddled when they were raised and taught to work hard for what they want and learned how to protect it. several of us ex-military/ LEO’s. my sister in law and daughter in law are nurses. my son in law has a degree in welding/ metal fabrication and mechanic. my son has diesel mechanic and small engine mechanic degrees and is a Marine veteran. my brother operates a guide service. has a plumbers degree and can build almost anything. him and his brother-in-law built his 10 room lodge by themselves in 2 years while both working full time jobs. theyre building a barn this year for the milk goats, rabbits and chickens theyre getting. we are all actively prepping all the time. i go to the discount places and buy stuff for pennies that is shelf stable for years. is it the tastiest or absoulute best for you, probably not but ive compiled many survivalist/ minimalist recipes and started making them in 2020. it will feed you for cheap and keep you alive. i make something out of simple ingredients that tastes great. ive used my time and the internet to improve my skillset. this website as well. as much as i enjoy talking to people on here, im mostly here to learn more about growing stuff and i share thatr with my group. we are a tight bunch and would die to protect each other if things went south. thats the way or forefathers got through the Depression. my grandmother was 93 when she passed 2 years ago. she taught us how to survive like they did back then and always told us to not rely on the government for anything . you are responsible for your safety and well being and not rely on others to provide for you. she would kick these kids nowadays in the ass and tell them to go do some chores outside. at the same time, gently and lovingly bandage a wound or give you a hug if you had a bad day. you want to call us a cult or militia because we want to be free and independent like or forefathers did, youre no better than the government responsible for the mess were in now. common sense isnt so common anymore. the government past and present has made sure of that. thinking for yourself has been brainwashed out of us through everything we watch and listen to. it was done to weaken us. now look what were facing now. this isnt just a bad spot in the economy. mark my words. prepare like your life depends on it!.

You are a lucky man to live amongst a family of self sufficient hard working people

I somewhat disagree re the “thinking for yourself”. Plenty of people still do. I would agree that “self-sufficiency” has been lost for most adults today. Very few people alive today could grow a garden that would feed a family of 4 for a year. Very few who post here could do it.

blessed! and to have parents, grandparents’, aunts and uncles that put family and close friend’s 1st. notice how everything is made to divide us nowadays. united we stand, divided we fall! no one talks things out anymore. until we start working together again, we will all be vulnerable.

talking about how everything you see and hear is trying and has succeeded to change what we perceive is right and wrong. 30yrs ago it none of this would be happening the way it is. putting way too much trust and power to the government and still expect them to do the right thing which most of us agree isnt what happening anymore. they preach about the constitution but violate it if/ when its convenient for them. i could go on but we are getting too off topic and into politics. its hard to get away from it anymore. its everywhere.

Poly tick ians (politicians) are blood sucking leeches that climb on anyone they can feed on until they reproduce. One invaded by poly ticks, no civilization has survived. Rome was brought down by poly tick ians.

and like Rome, this is playing out in many of the same ways. God help us!

Good for you. I don’t have a good network, but I’ve been around the old block a few times.

That’s an interesting take on it.

I’d suggest a lot more sources to our problems than just politics, though.

I put the lol at the end as to mean sarcasm… in no way did i think that is what you meant. I like all of your posts and honestly think and act mostly the same way as yourself.

Theres only a little over 4000 people on this forum so anything we talk about or discuss other than growing fruit is just our personal vents about current situations. Talk shows, social media, reddit, newspapers… are all full of us trying to figure out these crazy times…with no end in sight. We as a country are venting right now…in every way shape and form. These are bad times.

There is nothing we can do other than what you said… prepare.

There is nothing i can do personally about a $30 Trillion dollar debt. Theres nothing i can do about $5-$10/gal gas. There is nothing that i can do about other countries warring against each other. There is nothing i can do about Pandemics or Endemics. There is nothing i can do about mass shootings. I cant stop a Recession or Depression either. I havent met anyone yet that could offer anything but their opinion… and most people that i talk to about any of it doesnt care… or think that all we need to do is hold out 2 more years for one of our ex presidents to rescue us all.

To be honest i would love to be most of you guys neighbor. But thats why boards/forums/reddits/social media groups exist… so that even though we are far apart we can come together as a community.

“What country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms. the remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.” - Thomas Jefferson

I agree. My parents gave it a heck of a shot. We had very big gardens and mom canned and froze as much as she could… yet we still went to the grocery store every week or so.

Just to have pinto beans and cornbread without going to the grocery store would be a chore. I have never met anyone that grows their own pintos. Almost have to have a cow and chickens to pull off a good skillet of cornbread. Then u have to churn the buttermilk… and grind the corn.

A biscuit is not easy either… now u gotta grow wheat.

I saw a post of a guy that on FB that every time he finishes his coca cola he saves the bottle and fills it with rice. He has something like 1000 coke bottles of rice…they are under his bed, in closets…everywhere.

Would be nice if you or someone in advanced prepping started a (new) thread of best deals, how to’s, and other things. Seeds to save…how to etc. I think there is an old thread here somewhere but it went off the rails i think.

The toilet paper shortage was a warning sign…baby formula too.

God forbid there is a sugar shortage… i think that would cause a The Walking Dead scenario.

I still have much respect for the Native Americans…

you tube as thousands of prepper how to vids. thats where i got my info. i like Canadian prepper. hes in Saskatchewan. he alone has hundreds of videos. my mothers side was native Micmac, dads side had some too but way back. they knew how to survive off the land. get books about wild edibles/ medicinals then grow them amongst your other plants. modern permaculture food forests mirror what natives did. thats what i have in what used to be almost a acre of lawn. im still finding things to add, its amazing how much you can put in a small area and have it thrive with no fertilizer or pesticides. ive been improving on this property slowly going on 8 yrs. even my groundcovers produce fruit, medicine and spices. even when you think youre out of space,. you can go vertical. my south facing wall has kiwi grapes and groundnut as well as some zone pushers like fig , sweet cherry and wineberry. now im starting to fill the shaded places with edibles and medicinals i researched that do well there. i have Siberian pea shrub and lots of kale planted around my chic coop. also grow grains for them as well. theres lots you can forage around you if you know what your looking for. take notes of where you see them so you can go back later. daylilies and cattail grow all over here and have lots of edible bulbs for instance you can dig in winter if you need to. anyway getting a little long winded and definitley off topic so ill leave you with that info. to use as you wish. or anyone else that needs it for that matter…
