I considered filing a fraud report on this guy with FTC but decided to wait until the end of spring '18. If I don’t receive my order by then, I’ll definitely file a report.
Well the local DA has made an agreement with him,
Holy cow. Well I guess this was coming sooner or later. This woke him up.
So apparently his deal with the DA included a stipulation that he can only sell things he has right now and not take money for stuff he’s going to send at some nebulous future date. We’ll see, I guess.
So far he is honoring the agreement and sending out cuttings, but people who ordered plants and or cuttings 2 years ago have nothing. And because of him Fig4fun is gone forever. Please do not order from him. Try known good people like Bass
Or Harvey

Wills also sells trees and cuttings
https://willsfigs.com/p/fig-plants
All these people are top rate awesome fig collectors and all have certified fig nurseries.
Many awesome sellers on EBay too, also some serious scammers. If not a member of Ourfigss, ask here about sellers and get feedback from others before buying or bidding.
Fig4fun was such an incredible source of information. It’s a shame it was shut down.
Have been waiting two years for my cuttings!
I think if you email him and show your purchased receipt and he has to honor it upon agreement the the Ks State Attorney.
Tony
I’d steer just as clear of Wills. He has not verified what he’s selling so it was no real surprise to me that the Brogiotto Nero cuttings he sold me look like more like Black Mission, now 3 seasons later and after nursing them back to health from frost damage. He blew me off when I explained the importance of verification and documentation, this was after he had failed to follow through with promises to make pictures available on ourfigs, in the tradition of F4F… So I really should have known he was already aware and purposely avoiding it for a reason.
There have been other red flags, where his words just don’t line up with actions. Not to mention how things turned out with F4F, which was quite a gain for someone who would like to limit/control the information that helps people make informed buying decisions.
Buy from someone who documents what they are selling with original pictures, observations, descriptions, comparisons to other varieties, etc. the extra attention is what makes backyard growers a more reliable source than nurseries.
Read endorsements on forums carefully, is the person even capable of an honest review? Have they purchased from the seller and verified what they bought, is their endorsement specific and limited to their experience? Or are they parroting what they read or doing their friend a favor by giving a blanket endorsement?
I’ve known Wills a long time, Fruitnut and I have a lot of stuff from him that is fine. Well i only have a couple actually. Harvey also has made mistakes. So has many nurseries like Just Fruits and Exotics. I have Brogiotto Nero from pafigs, if you want cuttings or for me to do an air layer next spring, pm me, I owe you anyway.
I just hope everyone gets what they paid for in the end. In the fig community all you have is your name and once it’s tarnished it’s tarnished. I doubt James can ever be considered as trustworthy again. I’ve been cheated during trades by sending and not receiving but I’ve never paid for plant material that I didn’t get and if I would have I might have to take a drive and get whats owed to me or him get whats owed to him.
I also wish figs4fun was still open but like it was before the trolls and everyone started bickering. I also hated the pecking order that seemed to exist. It was a great resource but at the same time their was also dishonest people as with anywhere else. I’ve made many life long friends on their and learned many things I would have never known. I’ve obtain most of my fig collection from forum members. I also got wrongly labeled cuttings but I can’t blame the person sharing them unless every cutting was wrong. Many times fig growers go a little nuts in acquiring varieties the first few years of their addiction so we trade and trade even before we confirm varieties. I’m guilty of trading unconfirmed varieties in the past but learned quickly the blame will be cast on you if you trade wrongly labeled cuttings.
As far as the other sites selling rare fig cuttings I told everyone about 4 years ago on figs4fun the Dall’ osso in the states is not real. The same source that provided those cuttings from Italy confirmed it was not the real Dall’ osso after growing it for about 2 years. This same plant is still being sold as Dall’ osso. There are also many more unconfirmed fig cuttings being sold and in my opinion they should be sold as unconfirmed.
Brent,
You are a very angry guy. I do not recall you buying from me or complaining but I guess if it was 3+ years ago I would not. What I can tell you is I NEVER blow anyone off…anyone that messages me via email or PM gets a courteous and prompt reply. You will find NOBODY that will say different.
So now it is MY fault that F4F closed? That has to be the most ridiculous thing I have heard in a long time. How exactly do I “Limit/control information”? People can post on Ourfigs whatever they want. Post one, just one example of me censoring you or anyone on Ourfigs that was not swearing, trolling or spamming. Ourfigs did not need F4F to close, just look at the analytics for the past year, it is all public information. We were close to TRIPLING F4F’s hits and visits per day.
My feedback on eBay is perfect, 100%. I mail out several thousand cuttings every year , I mail out over 1000 1 gallon plants a year. Don’t you think that IF I was sending out wrong varieties somebody would have mentioned it? Oh wait…they do and I censor them all, right?..gotcha.
Grow up.
Wills
