Finished blueberry picking and pruning

This is the Oneal graft and it finished ripening a few weeks ago. It was getting higher than I wanted so I pruned it down to mostly sticks. Looks like it recovered and is growing pretty much as I wanted.

Nice!! My northerns are like that except squished down, all gnarled, not as big or tall. Some are tiny. Interesting how many forms. From ground cover to tree, the blueberries can be!

The birds have almost finished picking my blueberries. Early every morning the catbirds, brown thrashers, robins, mockingbirds, assorted wrens, and others gather to debate who gets to go first, chirping away outside my home office window. I did get some early in the season, and can report Titan seems worth planting in this climate. Titan was very large, early, and tastes just like all the other rabbit eyes.

I was about to remove my blueberry bushes when I tried out the nets. These type nets do a good job preventing birds from taking the berries. They are light duty and I wasn’t sure how well they would hold up over time. Just finished my second year with them mostly intact. I’m sure with good storage and care they will last another two years or more.

Thank you mrsg. Maci is my ten year old grand and the one which enjoys the fruit trees/fruit the most. She is spending the weekend with us and I was holding off picking the last berries so she could help. We picked enough berries for a cobbler and some for her to take home.

What kind of nets are those? I use a cage around some with bird netting, but that won’t work for all of them. Those look like they would work well for single bushes.

The ones I used are mosquito netting from Walmart. Works best in my opinion for a 5-7’ bush.

Thanks @Auburn. I think I’m going have to pick up a few for next season. Picked the last of the berries today
