I see this tree every morning at my kids daycare. I thinks it some type of flowering cherry. i only guess that because the bark resembles my Yoshino cherry. The flowers are like carnation. Very pretty. I know the owner real well so I may try an air layer.

It is a flowering cherry tree. You can buy a cole cherry root stock from One Green World for $2.75/rootstock and bud or T bud it for a more reliable method. I took a tour at the White House in D.C about 6 years ago during the cherry blossoms time and that was amazing site to see.
Amazing. One of the most beautiful blooming trees I’ve ever seen. When I see “flowing cherry” at nurseries I always think “what’s the point, you could have fruit for not a lot more trouble”. Now I get it. Wow.
cityman I feel the same way sometimes. I have a yoshino at my house im selling that we planted about 10 years ago. It is the most beautiful flowering tree in the neighborhood. The bees absolutely love it too.
