Force mid summer bud break? Haskap / Honeyberry

Noticed sometimes i will get unexpected new growth on my honeyberries mid summer, usually from just a few buds. Figured I’d try an experiment on a borealis I’ll probably replace anyway. We got a pretty heavy rain 2 days ago so good time to try.
Before: no mods

Removed half of this years growth
Removed all leaves remaining

Now i wait

What’s the purpose of this exercise? I mean it will regrow but what you had before was a better bet to fruit next yr than what you’ll end up with.

Couple reasons, Im curious if it will go dormant or break new buds mid summer. If it does break buds, old growth and new growth could be used for propagation, essentially giving you quite a bit more material to propagate in the same season. Mostly I just wanted to see what happens, if anything.

Cool, thanks for conducting research and sharing the results.

Weve got 2 months or so before frost becomes an issue. Will be interesting to see how much it fills in during that time and if it flowers well next spring, compared to the others in the same place…

Thanks for posting this kind of stuff. Very interesting. How does it look now?

Not a lot of growth but seems healthy enough.
