I like it with aluminum tape, should last a long while.

If you assign a two or three letter code to each variety and just keep it written down in your diary, the labels can be much shorter and quicker to make.

Found some scrap aluminum at work, scribes the name in and scored the tags with a cold chisel so they would snap off. Drill a hole and hang with stainless safety wire, .040 wire. The metal tag itself is about .040" to 1/8" thick. Random bits from the metal shop scrap bin

I’ve been using the 3 recycled aluminum mini blinds that my wife threw out. The 1" slat and pull string works great and very visible in the sun. A cheap usb engraver pen is all I have to pay for.

I just use an old pen that doesn’t write anymore on my cut beer can labels.
Takes it out of the trash bin. Lasts forever too.

I tried some of the stainless tape with the same Dymo label maker many in this thread have used. Seems to work pretty well and I also hog ringed a duplicate to the surround fence so they are easy to read. I may experiment with the aluminum tape too to see if the impressions are any better. The stainless tape does seem ‘hard’ and its easy to over adjust the impression and crimp the label material but I found a decent balance.

There’s a used M1011 metal emboss label maker on Ebay for $75 plus shipping. I saw it because I’m looking for a replacement for my reverse letter wheel. The L is too faint, so I’m hoping to find an inexpensive replacement that I hope will make crisper Ls.
