Autumn Blaze maples are everywhere here. Good red fall color (sometimes trends orange-red) but almost over planted. It does have fast growth and a nice, almost “muscular” form for a maple.
I see ‘Autumn Fantasy’ as another cultivar available at times. It seems to have a much deeper crimson fall color, but I hear the form of the tree is more rangy and “silver maple-like”.
Can anyone who has one (or knows of one) with some age on it confirm or tell me about how it matures?
Haven’t tried or knowingly seen Autumn Fantasy. It’s an Illinois thing, and might be regionally popular…it was patented in the 1960’s I think.
Autumn Blaze…people want a fast growing shade tree in the yard, but not a silver maple.
“Ding!” Autumn Blaze is the answer. It’s probably the fastest growing hybrid of red x silver maple.
May not be quite as nice in some ways in adulthood as straight red maples.
Sugar maple is the tree to plant if you want to leave one for the kids and grandkids.
But it will take 50 years to reach the size of a 15 year old Autumn Blaze.
