Fruit cocktail tree needs help

Hello all!
We planted a fruit cocktail tree about 6 weeks ago and it seems to be dying from the top down. The tips of the branches are losing leaves and look emaciated. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Have a great day,
Mat

I’d like to see a picture of the whole tree.

how much water are you giving it?

I am going to throw my opinion out to see if anyone agrees. I am a somewhat new orchardist myself so don’t take my word as gospel.

I believe that is too much branch structure for a new unestablished root system to support.
You didn’t say if you planted bare root or potted but it does not matter. It is common to prune back the
branches upon planting to minimize the stress of a newly planted tree.

If it were mine i would take about half of every long branch off and let it regrow.

Hi jermymillrood
We use a soil meter to measure the moisture. Its on a rain drip system, 45 min a day unless it rains. When we saw this starting, we thought it was because it was thirsty.
Thanks!

that seems like a lot of water for such a small tree. could be it’s getting overwatered. how much does that rain drip system put out in 45 minutes??

What type of Salad tree is it? Where did you get it? What root stock is it grafted too? Before planting what did the root development look like? Did you admen the soil or fertilize when you planted?
