For these vinegar traps, only a drop or two of liquid soap is necessary to eliminate the water surface tension, and drown the flies. Excess soap may reduce the vinegar odor.

Vinegar, dish soap, and water. Don’t do what my sister did and use balsamic. Apple cider, white, and rice vinegar seem to work well.
