some tropicals/subtropicals, unknown, and a mangy cherry or plum (?). planted passion fruit, sapote (?) and other seeds. have been trying to get sapodilla to start from seed, no luck yet with the few overpriced seeds I was able to order

I haven’t had any luck with sapodilla seeds either. Fresh from fruit (one from a farmers market and one straight off the tree) or from a seed store. They rot pretty easily for such a big seed.

Do they not germinate at all? I had a batch that did not sprout at all but the seller sent me fresh ones from seed and they all did rather quickly. This was months ago.

not at all- they’re not moldy, they’re intact, just no germination yet. but I think they may take a while, don’t they?

Got some dried “wild Kandak” apricots and have tried growing out the seed. First two have sprouted. Fergana Valley, Kyrgyzstan if they’re labeled correctly.

The ones that came up for me from fresh fruit took about 1-2 weeks to sprout. I don’t recall if the older ones ever did. Probably not since I was given fresh ones.

The Gooseberry seedling a bird planted under a pear tree is getting a bit bigger, so it graduated to a bigger pot. It was a tiny thing with two true leaves when I found it.

My harem of seedlings, about 200 loquat (127 in one gallons and a few community pots left to separate out) lots of Eugenia, psidium, Annonas and Garcinia. Everything doing really good in this location of almost all day shade with some early afternoon sun 12-2 approximately.

I just saw that Sheffield’s has 2024 harvest sapodilla seeds listed:
I might pull the trigger on a 1-ounce bag of seeds for $30, which is about 40+ seeds, and if I do that and succeed with germinating them, I’d be happy to give you some seedlings at some point.
