Fungicides as your all aware clear up a host of issues. I frequently get emails, messages and requests asking about these fungicides. Since immunox is not on the label I would not use it if fruit is on the tree because it is a systemic.
Two commonly used fungicides are immunox and captain. Captan is commonly used on pears and inexpensive. Immunox can be used according to the guide below. Finding pears on the immunox label is not something I have seen but many field experts do recommend it. Ensure you wear protective wear especially for your eyes. As soon as you see issues clear up I would stop using fungicides again. I only spray when there is an issue and stop spraying when there is not.
Copper is another fungicide I really like since it works on fireblight but again I would use it prebloom only and never again with fruit on the tree p0736_0.pdf (73.2 KB)
There is another thread that popped up about rust on a pear, so I thought I’d bump this one about possible sprays.
I see different names for rusts on pears, such as pear trellis rust, European pear rust and often just pear rust. Are these all the same or are they different and if different do they require different identification since they require different sprays.
For the last few years I’m seeing more and more rust in my pears and most June berries in our area are heavily effected and are probably helping to act as an ongoing reservoir to keep the amount of rust around here high. This year almost all of the fruit on a couple of Asian pears were ruined by rust.
I’m thinking of one spray of Immunox after petal fall next Spring and wondering if that will be sufficient to at least get it mostly controlled. I’ve never sprayed more than just surround and some spinosad, but there is no point in growing these pears if I can’t get fruit that doesn’t get all orange and spikey.
First I would try to understand the life cycle of the rust(s). Here’s a paper on European pear rust, which applies even to CE (our native juniper is not a host). I didn’t want to just steal the graphic.
I don’t have experience with any other rust on pears, fortunately.
