Gala Apples

Its taken a long time but the high density apples look pretty good this year. We start picking next Saturday. These are Ultima Gala from ACN. Did not thin enough so they are a little small, but I have a lot.

Wow, I’ll be harvesting my own Gala’s for the first time this year, mine are quite smaller right now, they are on m7 and bagged. What size generally are those apples in diameter? Mine don’t seem near that big but then again I’m in W MI and not ready to pick till September.

Good to see your high density apples are flourishing! Took me a few years to figure out the pruning, but now mine are doing well. My biggest mistake was using Home Depot Apple trees for some plantings. They are doing well, but I regret that they are not all known B9 root stock. Some are exhibiting too much growth, but overall I’m happy.

They look great! I feel like Gala often does not size well but it still seems to sell. Great looking crop.

Gala grows well in my climate and ripens before the rots and SB/FS. Planted mine 4X12 on BUD 9 which fills the row pretty well in my climate where BUD9 is a punk rootstock. One of my best choices so far. Other contenders are Pristine, Ginger Gold, Daybreak Fuji, Fuji, Crinsom Crisp and Goldrush.
