Hi everyone! My husband & I are attempting to grow a giant pumpkin. Our town is famous for the Pumpkin Show, so it’s kinda a “big” deal. We live in town, so we would be happy to reach >300 #'s. I have attached a photo of our 10 DAP that I took yesterday. Our mentor was concerned over some of our leaves showing evidence of a virus, so we’re anxiously waiting for the 20 DAP mark. We do have other pollinated pumpkins on the vine, and we’ll have to abort them after we know this one is good to go.
When do you think your pumpkin will ripen? Mine seems to have slowed way down the last few days. Check out the thread Atlantic giant pumpkin
This one is still young. We’re hoping to still have him on the 20 DAP mark. If all goes well, we’ll be picking him the 3rd week in October for the weigh in. We were a couple of weeks late getting females… probably due to the wet weather. I saw your pumpkin, and it looks great!
Circleville, always has a nice show along with Barnesville. Welcome to the forum!
Hello, Vonda, welcome to the forum, and good luck with your pumpkin growing. We planted out some seeds for small pie pumpkins a few weeks ago, and they’re really doing well, we’ve never tried to grow them before here.
I noticed y’all are in Circleville, we are in NE Kentucky, and go to Portsmouth, OH from time to time, so we’re almost, sorta close-by. We’d like to hear what fruit and veggies do well for you.
Bob
Hi Bob, I’ll have to check out the festival in Barnesville sometime.
Bob,
We’ve been growing a pumpkin for about 5 years now. This is our first attempt at a giant pumpkin. The pumpkin plant took over our garden, so my husband built me a small raised patio garden out of our son’s old bed. I grow peppers every year, and I’ve been growing (and eating) a head of lettuce this year.
