Our dwarf everbearing is doing phenomenal. Looking at a second tree that is white (non-staining) and grows well in the Phoenix Arizona valley climate. Specifically looking for information on flavor and if it really does have a raspberry taste in our climate. The one we have tastes awesome, would love a raspberry kind of flavor option.
Of the two dozen different mulberry cultivars I’ve trialed (including those), I’ve never had fruit that I’d describe as raspberry.
Any insight on the flavor? Too bland to keep or?
Here’s what I retained, based on their performance near the Vista/Oceanside CA border. Each has a unique flavor.
Are these white mulberries?
‘White Mulberry’ can refer to white-fruited mulberry cultivars in the nursery trade, but botanically it refers to only to Morus alba specimens, which have a range of fruit colors. Honeydrops is both.
Also worth noting: Morus alba has been labeled an invasive species in some U.S. states. Sale and/or distribution is prohibited there. Consequently, greedy sellers with customers in those regions are labeling their non-white-fruited M. alba as Morus nigra, adding to confusion about that species.
I’m looking for information specifically about one whit mulberry variety which is reported to grow well in my area. I. Just concerned the flavor will be bland
In my experience, specimens sold under the names ‘White Pakistan’ / ‘King White’/ ‘White Shahtoot’ vary widely in characteristics and species.
