Gisel 6 rootstock blooming

I have a cherry rootstock blooming now . Lost the tree that was on there . Anyone ever have one set fruit ? Just curious . I guess seedlings from seed would be useful .

I’ve not heard of it setting fruit or anyone growing it out. Would probably be terrible if it did, otherwise a nursery would have already tried to profit from it from a fresh fruit standpoint rather than a rootstock.

From what I can find Gisela are based on prunus canescens . Native of China and said to be used for humans also . Probably not a outstanding cherry . They are listed as self pollinating . So I should get fruit and seed . The original tree was a Baliton from VanWell . Gisela 6 is the only one listed as for both sour and sweet cherry rootstock . I should get a picture . The flowers look like the online photos of Canescens .

As far as I know its a hybrid between prunus avium and the mentioned prunus canescens.
With regard to fruit quality you are probably right.

Here a pictures . Blooms started out pink and are out before flowering pears in the area . Emerging leaves look rugose .
